Dance to heroes' songs

HONG KONG - Dressed in eye-catching outfits and headwear with traditional-styled makeup, performers of a Chinese traditional dance became a spotlight at a cultural event in Tsim Sha Tsui on Monday.

Titled "Chinese Battle Dance and Heroic Songs in the Year of the Dragon", the event featured the traditional folk dance for hero's songs, or Yingge Dance. This style of dance has a 300-year history in the Chaoshan region of South China's Guangdong province and was listed in the first batch of the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006.

Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung and other guests attended the opening ceremony of the activitiy, which was jointly organized by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office, the Federation of Hong Kong Jieyang Community Organization and the Kowloon West Chaoren Association.
