BEIJING - A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday urged Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority to immediately stop attacking and making unwarranted comments on the deliberation of a draft decision by the National People's Congress (NPC).

The DPP authority must stop its political manipulation over Hong Kong affairs, said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. He responded to media requests to comment on the DPP authority attacking the deliberation of the draft decision by the 13th NPC during its third session on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to safeguard national security.

For a period of time, the DPP authority and forces advocating "Taiwan independence" have colluded with those forces advocating "Hong Kong independence" and the international anti-China forces to wantonly interfere in Hong Kong affairs, said Ma Xiaoguang

"We also hope that certain political forces in Taiwan can distinguish right from wrong, and do things conducive to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability as well as the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations," Ma said.

Establishing and improving at the state level the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the HKSAR to safeguard national security is of great necessity and importance. It aims to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, uphold the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and ensure the correct implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle, he said.

For a period of time, the DPP authority and forces advocating "Taiwan independence" have colluded with those forces advocating "Hong Kong independence" and the international anti-China forces to wantonly interfere in Hong Kong affairs and create trouble under the pretext of the disturbance related to proposed ordinance amendments in Hong Kong, the spokesperson noted.

They aided and abetted activities intended to oppose the Chinese mainland and disrupt Hong Kong and smeared "one country, two systems" to support and engage in secessionist activities for "Taiwan independence," Ma added.

"Their plot is doomed to fail," he said.
