Around 1,000 children flew kites in the Gaza city of Khan Yunis on March 5 to express hope for the recovery of disaster-stricken areas hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The kite-flying event was hosted by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Residences and a hospital were built with aid from Japan in Khan Yunis, which has given residents a consistently strong affinity with Japan.

Later, the children arranged themselves on the ground to spell out the words "Gaza loves Japan" to express their solidarity with Japan.
