The Chinese character "luan", a word that generally means "chaos" and "disturbance", has been selected by Hong Kong netizens as the Chinese character of 2016. "The Chinese Character of the Year" campaign was launched by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) in 2013 aiming at spreading Chinese culture.
