Memorable moments of Gerrard's football career

By Associated Press

Steven Gerrard has retired after an 18-year professional soccer career and said Thursday he is considering a "number of options" about his next career move.

Considered one of the best midfielders of his era, the former Liverpool captain won nearly everything with boyhood club and played for England 114 times. Gerrard came closest to winning the Premier League, the one club prize that eluded him, in 2014.

His most famous achievement was inspiring Liverpool to victory in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul against AC Milan, a match the Reds were trailing 3-0 at halftime.

Gerrard scored 186 goals in 710 first-team appearances for Liverpool.

He left Liverpool in 2015 after losing his place in the team. The final two seasons of his career were played with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
