About 120 stalls were set up during the Hozuki-ichi festival, which dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867).
Tradition says eating the plant’s orange flesh at the auunal fair can help heal diseases. “I came here to buy [hozuki] as a lucky charm,” said a 76-year-old visitor from Misato, Saitama Prefecture.
