14 killed, 29 injured in bus overturn in Myanmar

YANGON - At least 14 people have been killed and 29 others being seriously injured as a passenger bus overturned on Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon highway, local media reported Tuesday.

With 43 passengers on board, a highway bus, Yazarmin, which set out from Nay Pyi Taw and headed for Yangon, overturned on the highway and fell underneath a bridge Monday at about 06:45 pm ( local time) when the bus was overtaking a small motor car at high speed under heavy rain.

The 14 victims, including four women, died on the spot, while the 29 injured were rushed to the nearby hospital.

The Nay Pyi Taw-Yangon highway, opened in 2009, was registered with 360 people being killed in connection with car accident cases up to now. Of the victims, 57 died in the first four months of 2014 in connection with 147 such accidents, the report added.
