TOKYO - Designs for two international airports, which should have been treated as highly-confidential information, was freely accessible on Internet through “Google Groups,” the company’s on-line mail sharing service, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned.

The airports are Chubu International Airport in Aichi Prefecture, and New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido. New Chitose Airport is an airport used by both commercial air carriers and the Self-Defense Forces.

It was caused because Google Japan Inc.’s employees made the service’s privacy setting as “Public,” which allows all users to view e-mails.

An official of Google Japan Inc. said, “We mistakenly made the setting as ‘Public.’ We’d like to apologize to those who gave us the airports’ designs.”

Due to security reason, the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry started investigation into the case.
