President Xi leaves for LatAm tour

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing Wednesday morning for a weeklong visit to the Latin America .

The tour is expected to deepen cooperation with Ecuador, Peru and Chile despite global economic headwinds

The three-stop tour will deepen cooperation with Ecuador, Peru and Chile, despite global economic headwinds, according to analysts.

On his visit, Xi will discuss cooperation in multiple areas, including e-commerce, production capacity, industrial parks and infrastructure, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The Chinese President will pay state visits to the three countries from Nov 17 to 23 at the invitation of Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

He will attend the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru, on Saturday and Sunday.

The President’s entourage includes Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping; Wang Huning, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee; Li Zhanshu, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; and State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
