Knife attack at Guangzhou station injures nine

GUANGZHOU - Nine people were injured after a knife attack at a railway station in China's southern business hub of Guangzhou on Friday morning, according to a police statement.

The attack happened around 8:18 am, according to a statement posted on the official microblog of Guangzhou municipal public security bureau.

According to the statement, police shot a suspect and nabbed another.

The civilians and the injured suspect are receiving treatment at the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Area Command of the People's Liberation Army.

By 11:30 am, four injured civilians were still receiving emergency treatment. The hospital said the other five and the suspect were recovering well.

Police are investigating the case. The identities of the attackers are not yet known. Services at the railway station have not been disrupted.

This is second attack of its kind reported in Guangzhou in a year. Six people were wounded in a similar knife attack at a train station in Guangzhou on May 6 last year.
