Ferry capsizes off Macao, 4 rescued

By Xinhua

MACAO - A ferry carrying 19 people capsized Friday off China's Macao, and four people have been rescued, the Special Administrative Region's customs department said.

The sunken ferry is a smuggling boat, with one captain, two sailors and 16 other stowaways on board, according to the customs department.

It said the four rescued are all stowaways, while the remaining 15 people are missing.

The Macao government's information bureau said in a statement that the marine authorities had been notified that a ship had sunk at 5:50 am local time on Friday. It said the boat had been carrying more than 10 people, including people suspected of illegally entering Macau.

Marine authorities have dragged the vessel back to the harbor, and are still searching for the missing.
