BEIJING - Three senior provincial officials have been put under criminal investigation over allegations of taking bribes, said the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) on Tuesday.

The officials are Zhu Mingguo, former chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wang Min, former member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shandong Provincial Committee and Party chief of its provincial capital Jinan City, and Chen Chuanping, former member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee and Party chief of its provincial capital Taiyuan city.

The SPP has taken "coercive measures" against them, it said.

According to the Criminal Procedure Law, coercive measures include summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention and arrest.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) on Tuesday also announced the expulsion of the three officials from Party and office.

The graft investigation into Zhu, a member of the Li ethnic minority, has been running since November and he was disqualified as a member of the CPPCC National Committee in December. CCDI found Zhu Mingguo took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted huge bribes in return for favor in selecting officials and regulating enterprises.

He is suspected of crimes including bribery, and his case will now be subject to a criminal investigation, it said in a statement.

As Zhu is among the 171 alternate members of the 18th CPC Central Committee, his expulsion from the Party will be further endorsed by a future plenum of the CPC Central Committee.

CCDI's statement on Tuesday also announced that it had found Wang Min took advantage of his posts to seek benefits for businesses of his relatives and friends, violating Party rules and codes of conduct. Wang was also found to have taken advantage of his posts to seek profits for others and accepted huge bribes in return for favor in selection of officials and enterprise operation.

The statement said that his "vile" wrongdoing continued after the 18th National Congress of the CPC in late 2012, and his case has been transferred to judiciary. Wang's expulsion from the Party will be further endorsed by a future plenum of the CPC Central Committee.

Wang has been under investigation since December.

Su Rong under criminal investigation for bribery

Su Rong, former vice chairman of the country's top political advisory body, is also being investigated by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) over allegations of accepting bribes, the SPP announced Tuesday.

The SPP has taken "coercive measures" against Su, who has already been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office following an internal investigation.
