China Daily picks up 11 prizes at Hong Kong News Awards

HONG KONG – The annual Hong Kong News Awards ceremony was held in the city on Monday.

The awards are a proof of the perseverance, professionalism and years of experience of people working in journalism in Hong Kong

China Daily won 11 awards with a record-breaking four top prizes this year.

Addressing the ceremony, Chief Secretary for Administration Matthew Cheung Kin-chung congratulated all the winners.

The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong organized the program at Admiralty in the city.

"The awards are a proof of the perseverance, professionalism and years of experience of people working in journalism in Hong Kong,” said Cheung.

He termed freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of publication as the cornerstones of Hong Kong's continuous success as a metropolis.

"The [government] is committed to safeguarding these vital core values of Hong Kong. We will continue to partner with the press and the media to make Hong Kong flourish and thrive,” he said.

Out of more than 633 entries from 14 Chinese and English language newspapers in the city, China Daily won 11 awards this year.

Its photography, science news, arts and culture news, and page layout desks each won the top award.

The newspaper also won awards for news writing, headline design and data journalism projects.
