HONG KONG - A group of local start-ups attended a forum on innovation and entrepreneurship in Beijing on Thursday in a rare exchange between people in the science and technology sector from both sides.

The "Mainland Expedition on Entrepreneurship and Technology" (MEET) was co-organized by the Hong Kong-based Our Hong Kong Foundation and Beijing-based Technology Department Torch Center. During the week-long expedition, participants visited leading technology hubs on the mainland, including Hangzhou, Jinan, Wuhan, and Xi'an, where they met with local start-ups, prominent investors, government officials and established Hong Kong entrepreneurs for exchange of views.

Li Meng, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said entrepreneurship is one of the core drivers of national development. While the mainland has a huge market with the world's most cutting-edge technologies and engineering talents, Hong Kong has more mature financial, trading and education systems and plays a special role as a super-connector between the mainland and the world. The cooperation between the two places should yield a much greater edge for entrepreneurs on both sides, Li said.

Noting that there are 146 high-tech zones on the mainland, Li expressed the hope that more Hong Kong start-ups would visit mainland for exchange activities in the future.
