Concerns expressed about conduct of localist lawmakers

HONG KONG - A group of lawmakers on Thursday urged new President of the Legislative Council Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen to clarify whether any more legislators, as well as the three rejected by the LegCo Secretariat on Wednesday's swearing-in ceremony, should retake their oaths.

Leading the group of lawmakers was veteran LegCo member Priscilla Leung Mei-fun.

Leung said she believed there were others who also disrupted the solemnity of the occasion by adding "content and substance" during their readings.

Leung said she, and some other legislators, could not accept some of the behavior which occurred during the oath-taking process.

The three lawmakers-elect, whose oaths were not validated, were Edward Yiu Chung-yim and Youngspiration’s Sixtus Leung Chung-hang and Yau Wai-ching.

Priscilla Leung was talking about some opposition lawmakers who chanted slogans and engaged in other antics to express their political views.

She said she plans to file a complaint to the LegCo president and the council's secretariat over the behavior of these lawmakers.
