HONG KONG - Pundits at a recent forum held in Hong Kong suggested investors focus on asset allocations and long-term investments as the world enters a global era of negative interest rates.

"Central banks around the world are rushing to cut interest rates below zero, which reflects deflation and the ineffectiveness of central banks’ policies, but there are still good investment opportunities," said UBS Wealth Management Chief Economist Hu Yifan at "Yan Ji Xiang Jiang" Hong Kong Finance Forum 2016.

She said that investors could allocate capital wisely and buy into different equities and bonds.

"Finding the right company and investing for the long term is very important," added Ding Xiao fang, chief investment director of FountainCap Research & Investment, at the same occasion.

He cited an example of Hong Kong-listed company Tencent, whose stock prices surged 300 times in 12 years.

Based on the theme "Rooted in China, Investing Globally", the forum, which was jointly organized by the Peking University Alumni Association (Hong Kong) and Chinese Financial Association of Hong Kong, attracted more than 350 guests and 30 speakers.
