Businesses leaders urge collaboration to create opportunities

By Li Yinze

HONG KONG - Business leaders, politicians and celebrities across the city have urged enterprises and people in commerce to promote shared values to bring ideas and opportunities to Hong Kong.

They shared their observations at a forum about “Hong Kong Shared Good Values” on Tuesday.

Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said collaboration to create new engines of social and economic growth was needed.

No one partner alone could address an issue effectively, she said. Lam added that there should be an agreement on a common purpose and freedom to experiment and try out ideas.

There should also be a mechanism to share experience. Lam said people facing difficulties in their lives want to see hands reaching out, doors opened and barriers lifted.

Joseph Lee Chung-tak, who co-chaired the forum, expressed his faith in collaboration of the business sector to foster development. Lee believed social enterprises had a significant role to play in addressing society’s needs and resolving issues.

This would help make Hong Kong a better place, he added.

Through seminars and workshops, Lee said he hopes the campaign will gather more resources and willingness to resolve problems and act to achieve these ends.
