HONG KONG - Mainland gold medalists in Olympic diving put on a demonstration for the people of Hong Kong on Sunday in Victoria Park.

Hong Kong spectators extended an enthusiastic welcome to the gold medal-winning athletes. Besides the divers Wu Minxia, Shi Tingmao, Cao Yuan, Lin Yue, Chen Aisen, Chen Ruolin, Liu Huixia, and Reng Qian, swimmers Sun Yang and Fu Yuanhui also turned out for the demonstration.

Internet darling Fu Yuanhui, whose cheerful interviews and goofy demeanor made her an international celebrity, said she was very pleased by the warm welcome she was given by the people of Hong Kong. She said she felt inspired by the reception. Fu added she considers herself as a professional athlete, and not a celebrity. Her plans are to keep working to achieve a higher standing in future competitions.

World record-holder Sun Yang said he would like to be as great a swimmer as his idol Michael Phelps and will keep trying to break his own records.

The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics ended last week. The Chinese mainland Olympics medalists touched down at Hong Kong on Saturday for a highly anticipated three-day visit. Today has been the big day featuring athletic demonstrations and a variety show in the afternoon.
