Team to leave for two-way alert talks in Beijing

HONG KONG — A delegation led by the Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung and Secretary for Security Lai Tung-kwok will leave for Beijing Tuesday to start talks on the detainee notification mechanism between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying announced Monday.

Leung said the meeting with the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Office came about following his proposal in June to conduct a comprehensive review of the mechanism which has been in place for more than a decade now.

The discussion of detainee notification mechanism has been in focus after certain booksellers from a Causeway Bay bookstore selling banned books were allegedly reported missing earlier.

Leung didn’t rule out any aspect of the notification mechanism that could come under review.

The SAR officials will return to the city on Tuesday evening and brief the media on Wednesday.
