HONG KONG - Four people died and 14 others were injured when a minibus collided with a truck Friday afternoon.

An officer from the fire services in charge of rescue said the four victims are two women, a man and an infant.

The 14 injured, all passengers on the minibus, have been rushed to three hospitals. Four of them are in critical condition and seven others have sustained severe injuries, according to food and health authorities.

The accident occurred at an intersection in Yuen Long in the New Territories at around 4 pm local time.

The 60-year-old truck driver, who was not injured in the accident, has been arrested by police on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.

Both vehicles were deformed, with debris of broken glasses and passengers' belongings left on the ground. The driver seat of the minibus was thrown out of the vehicle.

Since the minibus was flipped onto one side after the collision, some passengers were trapped in a very narrow space in the vehicle, adding difficulties to the rescue operation, the officer said.

Investigation is underway for the cause of the accident.
