State Council official meets Democratic Party leaders

BEIJING - The deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Feng Wei met with leading members of the Hong Kong Democratic Party in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Wednesday, a spokesperson for the office said in a statement Friday.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on political, economic and social issues in the SAR, according to the statement.

The statement noted that the central government often met SAR residents and political parties to solicit their opinions.

At the meeting, it was stressed that all residents and officials should understand and implement the "one country, two systems" principle.

The prosperity and stability of the SAR; national sovereignty; security and development interests; as well as support for the SAR government and its chief executive were also highlighted by the statement.
