HONG KONG - Hong Kong decades of economic development and continued prosperity were inextricably linked to the Chinese mainland, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said Wednesday.

Leung told at an event organised by Ta Kung Pao and Hong Kong Federation of Journalist to celebrate the 65th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China that Hong Kong’s economic development, from agriculture and fisheries to manufacturing and services were mainly fueled by reforms on the Chinese mainland. He also said while the city’s continued prosperity was due to its unique trading relation through the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement.

He told the audience at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai that Premier Li Keqiang’s April announcement that the Shanghai Hong Kong stock market through train would further deepen exchanges between the two metropoli and that Hong Kong must seize the opportunities through One Country, Two systems and CEPA to help shape the Chinese mainland’s capital market development and internationalization of the RMB.
