HONG KONG - A Hong Kong resident was among dozens of people who perished after a Taiwanese passenger plane crashed in an emergency landing amid poor weather.

Forty-eight people have been confirmed dead and 10 injured in a TransAsia Airways plane crash Wednesday, the airline said in a statement Thursday morning.

One Hong Kong resident and two French nationals were among the dead, a TransAsia general manager said.

Flight GE 222, carrying 54 passengers and four crew members, smashed into residential buildings after a failed emergency landing in the outlying island county of Penghu Wednesday evening.

One of the black boxes has been found, according to the authority.
