The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is set to host a series of events to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
At the launch ceremony on Wednesday — the 105th anniversary of the CPC’s foundation and the 29th anniversary of the city’s return to the motherland — the special administrative region government said the lineup will include thematic events centered on the nation’s space exploration achievements and green transformation, as well as celebratory activities across all 18 districts of Hong Kong.
These activities aim to enhance Hong Kong residents' understanding of the nation’s significant accomplishments, and foster national confidence and strengthen patriotic sentiment among residents, especially the youth, said Hong Kong Chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu.

He stressed that Hong Kong is an inalienable part of the nation. Since Hong Kong’s return to the motherland in 1997, the SAR’s long-term prosperity and stability have gained a strong backbone, support, security, and a future.
He said under the great vision and successful practice of the “one country, two systems” policy, Hong Kong has distinctive advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world.

Lee noted that the Chinese nation has realized great achievements on people’s livelihoods and economy under the leadership of the CPC. Correspondingly, the nation has provided a fundamental guarantee for Hong Kong's prosperity and development, and the central government has consistently shown deep care and unwavering support for Hong Kong, Lee said.
Hong Kong’s transition from chaos to order, and its advancement to prosperity, has reflected the great vitality of the “one country, two systems” framework, Lee added.

Also addressing the ceremony, Zhou Ji, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, said this year marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), and the nation has high expectations for Hong Kong.
Hong Kong can definitely achieve better development and enjoy greater prosperity and stability by integrating into and serving the country's overall development landscape, and will make even greater contributions to the great cause of building a great country and advancing the Chinese nation's rejuvenation, he said.
Zhou noted that the central government has fully supported Hong Kong in responding to various challenges.
With the central government's full support in preserving Hong Kong's distinctive position and strengths, the city has deepened external engagement and cooperation, the director added.
Hong Kong’s function as a bridge linking the country with the rest of the world has been continuously strengthened, and its global standing and influence have risen steadily, he said.

Before the launch ceremony, the attendees watched the live broadcast of the celebration gathering in Beijing to mark the CPC’s 105th founding anniversary.
At the gathering, eight model CPC members were awarded the July 1 Medal, the Party's highest honor.
Hong Kong lawmaker Priscilla Leung Mei-fun said the awardees are all individuals who have contributed significantly from different corners of the country.
“They are the secret of China’s success,” Leung said in a social media post.
