KUALA LUMPUR - Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Monday, following the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, that Thailand welcomed the resumption of discussions on a Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire and will further discuss the details of the ceasefire at another meeting with Cambodia on Dec 24.

At a press briefing after the special meeting convened to address the ongoing conflict, Sihasak said Thailand looks forward to addressing the relevant issues through bilateral channels, adding that discussions regarding the ceasefire would be conducted within the framework of the General Border Committee.

The Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting to address the Thai-Cambodia conflict was held on Monday in Kuala Lumpur, as the regional grouping seeks to promote de-escalation.

Meanwhile, dozens have been killed in the Thailand-Cambodia border clashes, including soldiers and civilians in both countries, official data showed Monday.

Thailand's military announced that ongoing border clashes with Cambodia have left 22 Thai soldiers dead. Separately, data from Thailand's Ministry of Public Health showed 38 Thai civilians had also been killed in the multi-day conflicts.

Thai media reported that clashes between the two sides in Sa Kaeo's border zones continued into the early morning of Monday, with sporadic bursts of heavy gunfire sparking widespread panic among residents. At approximately 7 am, Cambodian artillery shells struck a Thai residential area, damaging homes and igniting fires.

According to a Cambodian Ministry of Interior's press release, the Thai military forces have "fired and dropped various types of munitions into civilian areas, resulting in the deaths of 20 Cambodian civilians and injuries to 79 others".

Cambodian Defense Ministry's Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson Lt Gen Maly Socheata said the Thai military forces had continued to use artillery, tanks, toxic gas, and F-16 fighter jets to attack several targets in Cambodian territory as of Monday morning.

The Thailand-Cambodia border conflict has reignited since Dec 7, and both sides have accused the other of initiating the attack.
