Russia foils 190 terrorist attacks in 2024

MOSCOW - Russia's law enforcement and security services have thwarted 190 terrorist attacks since the start of 2024, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) of Russia.

"Through coordinated actions of security agencies, 190 terrorist attacks were prevented at the preparation stage," Alexander Bortnikov, chairman of the NAC and director of Russia's Federal Security Service, told a joint meeting.

Besides, over 6,000 individual accounts tied to terrorism funding amounting to more than 230 million rubles (about $2.28 million) have been blocked, including those linked to Ukrainian armed groups, according to the NAC. 

It added that 120,000 terrorist-related materials have been removed from the internet to curb propaganda and radical ideologies.

"Law enforcement forces neutralized 38 individuals, detained over 1,700 criminals and their accomplices, prevented about 2,700 crimes related to illegal arms trafficking, seized more than 100,000 firearms and more than 5,500 explosive devices," the NAC said.

Russia is strengthening anti-terrorism cooperation with its foreign partners from friendly countries, it added.
