The indignation was sparked by a recent letter written by US politicians to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in which two US lawmakers claimed that Hong Kong has become a “center for money laundering and sanctions evasion” and called for strict scrutiny of the special administrative region’s banking system.

The groundless accusation has drawn strong condemnations from the Commissioner’s Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, as well as the SAR government.
The protesters held boards and banners strongly denouncing US politicians for smearing and suppressing Hong Kong and calling for a stop to meddling in HK’s affairs.
One of the protesters said the US has developed a habit of hegemonically interfering in other places’ internal affairs, calling it a “political disease” and a typical example of self-righteousness.

He expressed his deep dissatisfaction with certain US politicians who persistently make unwarranted accusations, and malicious criticisms of the normal financial and business exchanges between the US and Hong Kong, saying such behavior disregards global trade regulations and disrupts the international financial order.
