Drone delivery has been popular since Meituan, China’s largest on-demand delivery platform, launched the service in Shenzhen and Shanghai.
The service is particularly popular with park visitors for several reasons. For one, most deliverymen don’t appreciate a 15-minute walk on a meandering path. Even if the deliverymen are willing, it’s difficult for a customer to describe their precise locations.
Meituan UAS (Meituan Unmanned Aircraft System, 美团无人机) offers solution to the problem by setting up delivery cabinets in such inconvenient locations. It is no longer necessary to carry food and drinks in the backpack.
More alluringly, how cool is it to have the meals air-dropped straight to you (and share the video on social media)?
More than 30 drone delivery routes have been launched in by Meituan UAS (Meituan Unmanned Aircraft System, 美团无人机) in Shenzhen, providing access to 90,000 kinds of meals, drinks or products. Total 300,000 orders have so far been delivered, Shenzhen Daily quoted a company spokesperson as saying on Tuesday.
Ten routes cater to visitors to parks, tourist attractions and leisure venues, including Shenzhen Talent Park (深圳人才公园), Shenzhen Central Park (中心公园), Lianhuashan Park (莲花山公园), Baishilong Music Park (白石龙音乐公园), Happy Valley (欢乐谷), Splendid China (锦绣中华), Window of the World (世界之窗) and Shenzhen Library (North Hall) (深圳图书馆北馆).
How to place a drone delivery order?
Users can search for the "美团无人机" (Meituan UAS) public account on WeChat and click the "服务” (Service) link. The interface is in Chinese, and orders can only be placed when the user is in the vicinity of a Meituan UAS delivery cabinet.
