BEIJING - No country, organization or individual shall underestimate the strong determination, will and ability of the Chinese government and people to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said here on Monday.

Lin made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to media query about China's countermeasures against 6 US defense corporations and 5 senior executives released on July 12.

Lin said that US arms sales to China's Taiwan region severely violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique, and seriously infringes upon China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

China has taken countermeasures in accordance with the law against the main contractors of the recent US arms sales to Taiwan and their senior executives, as well as defense corporations that have participated in the US arms sales to Taiwan and attended the so-called Taiwan-US defense industry forum over the years, Lin added.

He stressed that the Taiwan question is at the center of China's core interests, and it is the first red line that cannot be crossed in China-US relations.

"No country, organization or individual shall underestimate the strong determination, will and ability of the Chinese government and people to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity, or be under the illusion that they could tread or even cross the line on the Taiwan question without any consequence," he said.
