China levies anti-dumping duties on steel imports

By Agencies

The Ministry of Commerce said on Sunday that it has started anti-dumping duties on steel imports from Japan, the Republic of Korea and the European Union.

Imports of grain-oriented electrical steel — used in the manufacture of large generators and electricity transformers — will be charged duties ranging from 37.3 percent to 46.3 percent, the ministry said on its website.

The move came after an investigation found evidence of dumping that was harming Chinese industry, the statement said.

The anti-dumping duties, which have been levied since Saturday, will last for five years.
