HONG KONG - The central government’s liaison chief on Tuesday urged different sectors in the special administrative region to work together for the city’s prosperity and help the SAR integrate into the country’s overall development.
Wang Zhimin, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, made the remarks at the 33rd anniversary ceremony of New Territories Association of Societies.
Wang praised the NTAS for its strong support of central government policies toward Hong Kong and also the SAR government’s performance. He said the association was one of the major forces behind Hong Kong’s long-term stability and prosperity.
He urged the NTAS to actively promote Hong Kong’s integration into the country’s development.
NTAS was established in 1985 and currently comprises about 400 groups with more than 250,000 members providing services to 4 million New Territories residents.
Separately on Tuesday, Wang also attended an event held by the Better Hong Kong Foundation.
In a speech delivered at this event, Wang said the foundation played a significant role in the comprehensive and accurate implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle.
He advised the foundation to continue working closely with the central government, the SAR government and Hong Kong society. By doing so they could all contribute to the city’s prosperity, the nation’s rejuvenation and successful implementation of “one country, two systems”, Wang added.
He also explained that as the country was entering a new era, the practice of “one country, two systems” was also in a new phase.
Founded in 1995, the Better Hong Kong Foundation is a non-profit organization formed by influential business and community leaders in Hong Kong. It aims to boost communication between Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and the rest of the world.
