HONG KONG - The city is well prepared to seize the numerous opportunities for economic growth presented by two major national initiatives -- the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area plan -- Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said on Wednesday.

The special administrative region should maximize its unique advantages in financial services, trade practices, infrastructure and people-to-people links

Addressing this year’s Asia-Global Dialogue in Hong Kong, she said the special administrative region should maximize its unique advantages in financial services, trade practices, infrastructure and people-to-people links, which are among five key areas of connectivity under the B&R project.

Earlier this month, Hong Kong signed a Free Trade Agreement and a related investment deal with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Philippines, with the aim of resolving potential legal uncertainties and offering better market access for bilateral trade and investment opportunities.

A delegation comprising foreign consuls in Hong Kong and representatives of foreign chambers of commerce based in the SAR has embarked on tour of Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai to help Hong Kong-based businesses obtain first-hand knowledge of developments in mainland cities involved in the Greater Bay Area plan.

Launched in 2012, the Asia-Global Dialogue offers a platform for thought leaders from Hong Kong and overseas to discuss global issues from the Asian perspectives.
