ROK's Moon shakes hands with sister of DPRK leader

SEOUL - The Republic of Korea's President Moon Jae-in on Friday met Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un, according to Yonhap news agency report.     

Moon entered the main stadium in the ROK's eastern county of Pyeongchang, where the opening ceremony of the 23rd Winter Olympics began at 8 pm local time (1100 GMT).

Moon met and shook hands with Kim who serves as the first vice director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea of the DPRK.   

Earlier in the day, Moon also met with Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, at a reception held in Pyeongchang.

The delegation met two hours before the Winter Olympics' opening ceremony. 

Kim Yong-nam and Kim Yo-jong arrived at the Incheon International Airport in the ROK's western port city of Incheon at about 1:46 pm local time.

They were with a DPRK delegation that included Choe Hwi, chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, and Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.

The four DPRK delegates will have a meeting and lunch with President Moon on Saturday, according to ROK's presidential Blue House.

The high-ranking DPRK delegation will stay in the ROK for three days until Sunday. 

It is the first time since October 2014 that a high-ranking DPRK delegation visited the ROK. A delegation from the DPRK visited Incheon in 2014 to attend the closing ceremony of the Asian Games.
