Ryotaro Muramatsu: Naked 002
What Japanese artist Ryotaro Muramatsu is also the CEO of the production company Naked, and makes mixed-media art pieces involving cutting-edge digital technology and projection mapping. It’s redolent of TeamLab, except that Muramatsu uses traditional centuries-old washi Japanese paper and ceramic styles, and attaches real-life sakura (cherry blossom) tree branches to his “canvases” to blur boundaries between the real and the virtual, and between the existent and the non-existent. As such, he creates a form of ambiguity. Muramatu’s tantalising work suggests the immediate future for art may not be entirely AI-driven, but more “AQ”, in which an artificial quotient is added to the realistic mix of day-to-day living in the latter part of the 21st century.

The Hot Club of San Francisco
What Gypsy jazz is a style of music often credited to guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1930s Paris; he played alongside violinist Stéphane Grappelli, and was backed by a double-bass and additional guitars. Today, the Hot Club of San Francisco (HCSF) is one of the world’s leading gypsy jazz exponents. HCSF borrows the instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original art form while breathing new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions by the group’s renowned lead guitarist, Paul Mehling. Making their Hong Kong debut, the HCSF features two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Evan Price, the velvety vocals of Isabelle Fontaine and a swinging rhythm section. It’s catchy, uplifting and utterly compelling entertainment.
