Legislative Council member Dominic Lee Tsz-king said on Thursday that the Independent Committee’s report on the deadly Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po was a fair and impartial assessment that directly confronts institutional gaps and holds regulatory bodies accountable without excuse.

"Accountability is never a gesture for show," Lee said in written remarks to China Daily, adding that directly addressing systemic issues is essential to restoring public confidence.

"It is about letting society see that accountability must be sought and rigorous followed up. Only by doing so can the subsequent reforms carry conviction, and the grief of the affected families be prevented from being drowned out by empty talk," he said.

Lee's remarks came as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government released the committee's report on the November 2025 multibuilding blaze that killed 168 people.

The government announced plans to conduct a full-process review and implement systemic reforms across every critical stage of building maintenance and renovation to prevent such future tragedies.
