HONG KONG – The cross-border crime landscape has been changing rapidly, and fraud and financial investigations have been listed as priorities for the Hong Kong Police Force, Joe Chow Yat-ming, commissioner of police of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, told Xinhua in an interview.

With the 94th session of the Interpol General Assembly to be held in Hong Kong, Chow said that the city will use the conference as a platform to establish ties with law enforcement bodies in different countries and regions, hold bilateral meetings, and promote intelligence exchange and capacity-building cooperation.

Slated for Nov 30 to Dec 3, the meeting marks the third time China has hosted the general assembly and the first for Hong Kong. Chow said it is a great honor for the HKSAR government to host such an important event.

Hong Kong will seize the opportunity to showcase the achievements it has made under "one country, two systems", as well as the image of Hong Kong as an Asian financial hub, the image of the Hong Kong Police Force, and the appeal of the city to visiting counterparts, Chow added.

Urquiza said Hong Kong stands out as a hub for finance, trade and digital services, making it an ideal venue for the international law enforcement community to convene and discuss future cooperation and law enforcement.

During the meeting, Interpol will focus on topics such as the financial assets of criminal organizations, AI-related crimes and global fraud, Urquiza said.

As part of efforts to beef up cooperation with different jurisdictions, the Hong Kong International Academy of Policing is set to open in November, a move Chow said aims to bring international experience to Hong Kong while sharing the city's own practices.
