The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 328.09 points, or 0.63 percent, to 52,093.11. The S&P 500 sank 34.25 points, or 0.45 percent, to 7,585.73. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 204.84 points, or 0.78 percent, to 25,981.57.
Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the red, with consumer discretionary and utilities leading the laggards by dropping 1.76 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and materials advanced 2.26 percent and 0.37 percent, respectively.
