WASHINGTON/PYONGYANG – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he expects to meet again with Kim Jong-un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), later this year.

"Yeah, I will be," Trump told reporters at the White House when asked if he expects to meet with Kim this year.

The White House has not confirmed plans for a meeting between the two leaders.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported Tuesday that Trump had privately discussed arranging an in-person meeting with Kim during his upcoming trip to Asia, which could take place in November.

While Trump views another one-on-one meeting as an opportunity to reopen dialogue with the DPRK, analysts and some US officials do not expect significant progress, according to the WSJ report.

Meanwhile, Kim Yo-jong, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said she was unaware of the reported recent communication between the leaders of the DPRK and the US, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday.

Kim also said that the US hostile policy towards her country has not changed, as the US and its followers have been violently conducting hostile military activities against the DPRK, the KCNA said in its report.

Even though the leaders of the two countries have maintained an "excellent" relationship, it is "reasonable, appropriate and essential" for the DPRK to take actions within its sovereign rights to deter hostile forces from threatening its security, she stressed.
