Eligible secondary school graduates from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region can have more options for further studies by applying for subsidized undergraduate programs at designated Chinese mainland institutions starting from Tuesday.

Under the Mainland University Study Subsidy Scheme (MUSSS) 2026/27, graduates can pursue undergraduate studies in 217 mainland institutions, including 165 participating in the Scheme for Admission of Hong Kong Students to Mainland Higher Education Institutions for the 2026/27 academic year, the Education Bureau said in a statement.

To meet the students’ different financial needs, the bureau said they may apply for a means-tested subsidy or a non-means-tested subsidy under MUSSS, with the funding given on a yearly basis throughout their undergraduate program.

“Eligible applicants may only receive either a means-tested subsidy or a non-means-tested subsidy in the same academic year,” the bureau said, adding that the financial aid will be disbursed based on the distance between the locations of the mainland institutions and the HKSAR.

Students can submit their applications via the MUSSS electronic application platform or send the completed application forms by post to the bureau on or before Sept 21. They will be notified of application results in phases from the first quarter of 2027.
