There is no need for relevant countries to over-interpret China's routine military training activities, which are not directed at any specific country or target, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning's comment came after some countries in the South Pacific, such as the Solomon Islands and New Zealand, criticized China's missile test launch.
China notified the Solomon Islands and other South-Pacific island countries prior to the launch of its missile, Mao said, adding that the move is consistent with international law and common practices.
She stressed that China remains committed to the path of peaceful development and adheres to a nuclear strategy that focuses on self-defense and keeps its nuclear power at the minimum level required by national security.
