Taxi driver killed in head-on collision with bus in Sai Kung

A 63-year-old taxi driver died while his two passengers were injured after the taxi they were riding collided head-on with a bus in Sai Kung on Saturday night.

The accident happened around 6:41 pm while the taxi was travelling along Hiram’s Highway towards Sai Kung, police said.

The taxi veered into the opposite lane and slammed head-on into a bus going towards Clear Water Bay, local media reported.

The front end of the taxi was severely damaged while the taxi driver and his two passengers, a 50-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, were trapped inside and later rescued by firemen, police said.

With multiple serious injuries, the unconscious taxi driver was rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital but was certified dead at 8:32 pm, police added.

The male taxi passenger had shoulder and hand injuries and was brought to Prince of Wales Hospital, while the female passenger suffered from chest pain and was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Both are in stable condition, according to local media.
