The biggest-ever hometown carnival is set to take place in Hong Kong from June 3 to 7 at Victoria Park, featuring booths dedicated to regional agricultural and related products for the first time, in addition to its traditional offerings of delicacies and interactive events.

This year, the fourth edition of the Hometown Market Carnival will return with over 370 special booths, covering four main themes, namely regional speciality fair, hometown delicacies, cultural shows, and high-tech experiences.

Announcing the event, Sze Ching-lau, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and president of the Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Associations, said, "This event serves as an essential platform for preserving memories of one's hometown ... it also stands as a benchmark platform for Hong Kong's hometown associations to root themselves in the grassroots and serve the residents."

Sze’s association is among some 30 provincial-level hometown associations in Hong Kong jointly organizing the carnival.

The organizing committee said that a variety of agricultural and sideline products to help boost rural revitalization will be introduced for the first time. Twenty-four dedicated booths will showcase these regional specialties, such as homegrown sweet potatoes, organic brown rice, and wild mushrooms.

To attract more visitors, the carnival has once again expanded its Chinese Hot-Food Street section. Forty authentic food stalls will serve various delicacies from across the country, including Xinjiang barbecue, Fujian deep-fried sweet and sour pork, Shaanxi roujiamo (flatbread stuffed with meat), and Tsingtao beer.

In addition, 157 cultural performances will be presented by 26 associations, showcasing diverse ethnic traditional cultures.

A special innovation and technology zone will display cutting-edge technologies such as humanoid robots and digitized intangible cultural heritage.

Lee Man-chun, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and president of the Hong Kong Federation of Hainan Community Organizations, told China Daily that Hainan will bring 21 booths to the scene, offering authentic delicacies such as Wenchang chicken, together with interactive experiences such as trying on traditional Yi ethnic clothing.

"As for the agricultural and sideline products, fruits will be a major highlight of Hainan," Lee added. "We will bring lychees as big as palms to the carnival."
