Chinese mainland green energy storage giant HiTHIUM Energy Storage Technology Co Ltd is set to establish a transformation base for cutting-edge battery technologies at the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, supported by a HK$80 million ($10.2 million) boosting fund from the Hong Kong SAR government.
Speaking at the launch ceremony on Thursday, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong hailed the arrival as a “double blessing” — HiTHIUM becomes the first company to establish a pilot transformation base within the park, and its subsidiary’s application to establish a production line to produce high-capacity energy storage batteries has been approved project under the government’s New Industrialisation Acceleration Scheme.
The Hong Kong Park, officially opened on Dec 22, has attracted nearly 80 companies as of the end of March, with an occupancy rate of nearly 90 percent.
The Fujian-based unicorn, currently the world’s second-largest lithium-ion energy storage battery shipper, has leased approximately 3,700 square meters at the park to build the transformation base. The total investment exceeds HK$200 million, with the government providing around HK$80 million in funding.

Over the next five years, the facility is expected to generate HK$750 million in output value and employ over 100 people, Sun added.
“This fully demonstrates the strategic direction of the Hong Kong Park in the Hetao area to focus on upstream and midstream I&T development, as well as Hong Kong’s determination to advance into the field of advanced manufacturing technology,” he said.
Kevin Choi, permanent secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and the chairman of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Limited — operator of the Hong Kong park — noted that HiTHIUM’s advanced green technologies will play a key role in accelerating the park’s innovation ecosystem.
“HiTHIUM can also inject strong momentum into Hong Kong’s new energy industry, helping Hong Kong play a more important role in the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and the building of an international innovation and technology hub,” he said.

Yi Ziqi, vice-president of HiTHIUM, said that the company will establish a full-scenario validation and advanced manufacturing demonstration production line for high-capacity, high-safety, long-life energy storage battery cells.
“HiTHIUM will not only fill a critical gap in Hong Kong's high-end new energy manufacturing, but also, by attracting upstream and downstream industrial resources, build a green, low-carbon industrial ecosystem spanning from materials and equipment to system integration — making the project a benchmark for Hong Kong's new industrialization in the green energy sector,” Yi said.
