KABUL/ISLAMABAD - Afghanistan and Pakistan have announced the suspension of military operations during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, officials from both countries said on Wednesday.

Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a post on social media platform X on Wednesday evening that the Afghan government has suspended its military operations against Pakistan during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

He added that safeguarding Afghanistan's national security, sovereignty and the lives of its citizens remains both a national and religious obligation, and that the Afghan government will respond firmly to any aggression if threats arise.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar also said on X that Pakistan would halt its attacks on Afghanistan during Eid al-Fitr.

According to Tarar, the suspension of operation has started from midnight on Wednesday.

Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have escalated rapidly after clashes broke out along the border areas between the two countries from late Feb 26 to early Feb 27.
