HONG KONG – Train services on the Island Line resumed nearly an hour after suspension during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, following the detection of an object on the tracks near Wan Chai station.

At 7:30 am, the MTR Corporation – the city’s sole rail operator – said the train services were gradually resuming after the object was removed.

The operator said at 6:39 am that an object was found on the tracks near Wan Chai station of the Island Line, prompting the suspension of train services between Quarry Bay and Sheung Wan stations.

“Island Line train service near Wan Chai Station is suspended because of object obstructing the track area,” read an alert sent by MTR.

The railway operator urged commuters to consider using other transport, and arranged a free MTR shuttle bus service between Sheung Wan and Quarry Bay stations.

Many affected passengers quickly switched to other modes of transport, leading to long queues for buses near affected stations.

Some commuters said the mobile phone apps of bus operators seemed a bit slow, possibly due to the large number of people checking the timing on them.
