SYDNEY - A man is in a critical condition following a third shark attack at beaches across Sydney within two days.

Emergency services were called to a beach in Manly, about 10 km northeast of central Sydney, shortly before 6:30 pm local time on Monday, following reports that a shark had attacked a man.

News Corp Australia newspapers reported that the victim suffered extensive wounds to at least one leg and was dragged unconscious from the water.

Several ambulances and a helicopter were deployed to the scene where the man was being treated by intensive care paramedics on the beach.

Earlier on Monday, an 11-year-old boy escaped without injuries when his surfboard was bitten by a shark at a beach in Dee Why, 5 km north of Manly.
