BEIJING – President Xi Jinping on Friday called on China and Canada to advance the building of a new strategic partnership with a sense of responsibility toward history, the people, and the world.
The Chinese leader made the call while meeting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Beijing.
Both sides should promote China-Canada relations onto a path of healthy, stable, and sustainable development to better benefit the peoples of both countries, Xi said.

China and Canada should be partners of mutual respect, common development, mutual trust, and collaboration, he added.
The essence of China-Canada economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, with both sides benefiting from cooperation, said the Chinese president.
Carney arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a four-day official visit to China, the first trip to the country by a Canadian prime minister in eight years, highlighting the recent warming of bilateral ties.
