
Checkpoints in Hong Kong handled more than 1.18 million cross-border trips on Boxing Day, according to the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.
Immigration data showed that 1,181,118 trips were recorded on Friday, including 622,961 arrivals and 558,157 departures.
The arrivals included those of 498,893 Hong Kong residents, 75,178 visitors from the Chinese mainland, and 48,890 travelers from other places.

Of the 558,000 departures, 436,025 were made by Hong Kong residents.

The busiest checkpoints were those at Lo Wu, which logged 127,131 arrivals and 101,944 departures; Lok Ma Chau Spur Line (102,567 arrivals and 91,259 departures); and Shenzhen Bay (92,480 arrivals and 76,982 departures).
The total number of trips recorded in the last three days, including the 1.25 million on Christmas Day, has reached 3.59 million.
The Immigration Department earlier said that it expected to handle an estimated 11.52 million cross-border trips during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
