BEIJING - China has called on Cambodia and Thailand to exercise restraint and prevent their border situation from escalating further, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson for the ministry Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing following the recent Cambodia-Thailand border conflict.

He said that as a friend and close neighbor to both Cambodia and Thailand, China sincerely hopes that the two sides will meet each other halfway.

"China will continue to play a constructive role in easing tensions and cooling down the situation in its own way," Guo added.
