WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump has granted pardons to dozens of people accused of attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election, according to a Justice Department document.

A proclamation published on Justice Department Pardon Attorney Ed Martin's personal X account late Sunday said that Trump granted a "full, complete, and unconditional pardon" to 77 listed people, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows.

The document said that it "ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people following the 2020 Presidential Election and continues the process of national reconciliation."

Giuliani is one of Trump's oldest political allies and personal lawyers. He was suspended from practicing law in New York and Washington, DC for making false election-related statements.

Meadows, a former US Congressman, served as White House chief of staff from March 2020 to January 2021.

After the 2020 election, which was won by Joe Biden, Trump claimed that the election was stolen. The individuals on the list faced charges or accusations in connection with various efforts to subvert the 2020 election.

NPR reported that the pardons are largely "symbolic" as presidents cannot pardon people charged with state crimes, and none of the names listed were ever charged with federal crimes.

"Dozens of people listed were charged in multiple swing states that were the center of unfounded claims of election fraud, including Georgia, Nevada, Arizona and Wisconsin," the report said.
